- Dr Joe has VERY unorthodox methods, these really are NOT your typical methods you hear about when it comes to providing self-help to children. – To empower your own children; You will first need to take responsibility for your own self-empowerment, such as learning to love yourself. Dr Joe Rubino Low Self Esteem In Children

From the time their children are young, parents can begin to instill the CONFIDENCE and self-esteem children need to feel capable and competent to solve their own problems and make their own choices whenever possible. This improves low selfesteem in children tenfold.

Whenever an opportunity arises for children to self help and to make his or her own decisions (as long as these decisions do not jeopardize his or her safety or create irreparable harm), it will serve the child to make these decisions and learn from each one. Dr Joe Rubino the author of Self-Esteem Elevation for Children Coaching Certification advises parents and teachers alike to support their children in the decision-making process by asking insightful questions that support the child to consider the possibilities and consequences of their decisions.

TRY NOT TO BE TOO OVER-PROTECTIVE

Parents who are overly protective and hover over their children excessively in an effort to protect their children from all harm or negative consequences of poor decisions create dependency and send a clear message to them ending up in low self esteem in the child. They could be putting their self image in children. This message is that they are not wise enough to think for themselves and so they must have their decisions made for them. The child’s resulting lack of belief in his ability to make decisions that will result in happiness, success, and rewarding results can be damaged to the point where he loses faith in his ability to find the answers to survive and thrive. It is therefore the self-esteem in children that inevitably suffers as a result of too much over-protection.

LEARNING TO TRUST THEIR OWN INTUITION

The best self help for kids can instead be taught to listen to and trust their intuition. When a child gains the confidence to know the answers to her problems lie within her and that her intuition is never wrong, she can trust that as she develops the ability to listen to her inner wise voice, she will never be without the wise counsel she seeks. Self-esteem and children is also about learning to distinguish between the wise voices of their intuition and the negative self-talk. It is the voice of love and wisdom that helps empower the self-esteem in children.

Teach Children to Set Goals that are Attainable, but a Stretch

So you’re a parent or grandparent who would like to learn self help for children formulaes and how to improve the low self-esteem of your child or grandchild. Or maybe you’re a teacher or nursery assistant who would like to find out how to help develop a positive self-image in children under your care.

Well, if you fall into either of the above categories, then not to worry because we are here to help and show you how to champion children to develop high self-esteem. Joe Rubino reveals the art of goal setting which is a proven method to EMPOWER self-esteem in children - as this tool alone puts them on the path to future success and happiness:

Many aspects of a child’s vision will be served by identifying goals that align with the vision. Children can learn to set goals and take pride in the accomplishment of these goals. From a young age, children can be encouraged to set achievable goals that boost their self-confidence and belief in their ability to produce a desired result. Parents can both CHAMPION their children by assisting them in the realization of their goals as well as praise them for their accomplishments. As they gain more confidence in their ability to attain goals they set, parents and teachers can challenge them to make these goals a bit more of a stretch. This will further improve the self-image in children.

It is important for parents to stress the values of goals as a starting point rather than invalidate the child when a goal is not achieved. Parents can look together with their children to discover what might have been missing when a goal was not reached. By doing so, the experience for stretching for a goal but not achieving it can prove to be tremendously valuable. Parents can instill the belief that little is impossible for the child to achieve and the process of setting goals and learning along the way is just as, or more valuable, than the actual attainment of the goals themselves. Self-esteem for children is as much about learning from any mistakes made; as it is about the actual achievement of a target set.

Parents can teach their children the art and science of setting and achieving goals by stressing the following elements of goal setting:

  • Goals should be clear, specific, and measurable. Parents can encourage children to write out their goals so as to be clear about exactly what they desire to accomplish. There should be no doubt about what conditions need to be met for the goal to be realized.
  • Goals should be attainable, not pie in the sky, “hope it happens” ideas with little chance of realization. They can be a stretch to encourage the child to problem solve and develop new skills needed to reach them; as this is an excellent means of growing self-esteem in children.
  • Goals should me measured in time, that is, children should strive for accomplishing goals by certain dates to avoid procastination and the resulting loss of personal power and self-esteem that results when conditions of satisfaction are vague.
  • Children should be clear about exactly what their personal responsibilities will be as they embark upon the attainment of a goal. They would be well-served to be held accountable by reporting their actions and results to someone who agrees to coach them and hold them accountable to the actions they commit to doing.
  • Parents can encourage children by establishing rewards for the accomplishment of the goals they set. The rewards need not be large. Recognition or small treats are often great incentive to support the child with added motivation to keep focused and on track. Self-esteem and children will benefit and grow as a result of this reward process for goals and aims achieved.
  • Parents can teach the value of consistent and persistent actions performed regularly with the realization of goals in mind. A daily or weekly action commitment is often a great tool to teach the value of sustained regular, effective effort. When children are taught the power of consistent (day-in-day-out action) combined with persistent action (following up as needed to ensure the desired result) they will be supported to develop success habits that enable them to produce the results they desire and build self-esteem.

A useful article about Children’s Self-Esteem inspired by Dr Joe Rubino

My aim was to create a Joe Rubino’s Self-Esteem Elevation for Children Coaching Certification Review and after reading the actual guide I found some interesting things.

Studies show that self-help for children results in high self-esteem in children. This is the most essential ingredient for them to grow into balanced, happy, successful adults capable of attracting into their lives abundance, rich relationships, fulfillment, and peace of mind. Conversely, those children possessing low self-esteem were far more likely to engage in criminal behaviour, drop out of school, abuse drugs and alcohol, and resort to aggressive, harmful, defensive, and egotistical behaviour later on in their lives.

You see, HIGH self-esteem for children is the number one factor in developing happiness, fulfilling potential, and achieving overall success in life. And what is self-esteem?. It is PERSONAL POWER, the ability to produce an intended result with both absolute clarity and conviction. In other words, those possessing a positive self-image have the ability to envision a goal and know that they can manifest it with total confidence and belief. In addition, those possessing personal power have an air of competence. They are in control of their lives and expect and achieve success.

Unfortunately, low self-esteem is a WIDESPREAD problem, afflicting the vast majority of people everywhere in the world. Research points to the fact that approximately 85% of the world’s people suffer from a negative self-image in one or more of the key life areas. Losing self-esteem first takes place, usually sometime between birth and age 6,  in which something happens to have the child doubt himself or herself. Someone says or does something that has the child believe he or she is flawed, unlovable, not worthy, imperfect. As a result, this poor self-image in children has an adverse effect on their potential for future success.

If you want to learn how to improve self-esteem in children, whether you are parent, carer, or teacher; then you will need to avoid the common mistakes that many adults make. In fact, you are going to find out what not to do and EMPOWER children to develop the tools and mindset for acquiring a high level of self-esteem that will support their ultimate success and happiness in all areas of their life.
